Strategic Controlcentres

The New ‘board room’ as a Strategic Control Centre (SCC)

In the current difficult economy, HP argues, companies need ‘truth’ more than ever.”
International Herald Tribune (30 Dec., 2008) continues regarding the importance of data warehousing to keep control of a large business: “This is not a nice-to-have toy for some data analyst”. The toxicity of the international financial markets is demand more factual information, but this demand will probably spread to other areas. A basic requirement is to have access to proper databases in general. There is an emerging need to obtain a joint interdisciplinary understand of ‘global warming’ and environmental issues in general, which in turn will have global economic consequences! It was the new HP president, Mark Hurd who realized and brought the issue of ‘need of the truth’ on the strategic agenda of HP. In general top executives of MNCs, large government departments and international organisations need to be closer to the decision making loop, from new facts to new plan of actions! “Data warehousing” with high quality assurance, is an important first step. However the information and knowledge need to be timely and easily available and also understandable to the related top executives who are supposed to make the final decisions.

We need a new kind of ‘board room’.
It is a cockpit control centre for top executives’ strategic decision-making with an extremely high degree of usability to minimize the risk of errors. To be a part of the decision-making loop will support the skill and competency development of top executives. The executive will get a chance to continue building and developing their tacit skill and knowledge. Currently, top leaders of large organisations have very limited access to effective methods of on-the-job learning or relevant management training. Available traditional management training is a waste of time. By contrast, the vision of a future ‘board room’/strategic control centre (SCC) will offer an enormous potential to improve rational decision making and learning opportunities. The new potentials are based on interactions of top executives and a few relevant experts, availability of large scale displays connected to advance data warehousing, simulations systems and AIs projections etc in this new era of ‘board rooms’ and SCCs. High degree of usability is a must!

Who would like to join us in designing this new SCC VISION?
